Troy

Who has the best app/side in Troy?

Many of life’s greatest mysteries are destined to go unsolved for as long as the South Alabama football team goes without a bowl win – which is forever.

But one of those mysteries doesn’t have to go unsolved. Local inanimate building Veterans Memorial Stadium has taken to twitter to solve the age old question of who in Troy has the best side/appetizer.

With the help of other twitter users, the 30,420-seat venue is one step away from solving the conundrum.

Through a 16-item bracket, The Vet – which uses the handle @HomeofTroyFB – is down to just two items left standing.

Monarca’s cheese dip enjoyed a fairly easy trip to the finals, blowing out Julia’s cornbread with 86 percent of the vote before eventually wiping Preston’s onion rings off the table in the final four with 84 percent of the vote.

The town-staple will be joined in the finals by student-favorite Momma Goldberg’s nachos.

The unique take on cheese-covered tortillas survived a first round scare against Sister’s banana pudding, escaping the dish with 53 percent of the vote.

It didn’t get much easier as the jalapeño-topped side had to fend off Sante Fe’s rolls with just 57 percent of that vote.

What they’re saying

Monarca’s

“I don’t think it’s overly spicy but it’s got a good kick to it,” Troy resident Angie Smith said. “The chips are usually really warm. They’re not usually super thick.”

Momma Goldberg’s

“The pepper jack cheese makes it special,” former Troy student Daniel Samac said. “The combination of nacho cheese Doritos with pepper jack cheese on top and being steamed is so good.”

Momma Goldberg’s close proximity to campus and active social media presence make it a favorite among the student demographic.

Monarca’s has direct competition with another student-favorite in Rodeo, but maintains a packed house from locals and travelers throughout the week.

The X-factor for both will be their own demographics. The younger the vote, the more likely the nachos take the crown.

The more established the vote is, however, the more likely the cheese dip comes out on top.

The voting is set to take place on Wednesday on The Vet’s twitter account.
