4th Down Conversion Propels Troy To 28-24 Win Over App State

A 10-yard Jordan Chunn with 1:05 left after a 42-yard completion on 4th down was enough for Troy to take a 28-24 win over Appalachian State and set up a potential league championship game on Thursday night versus Arkansas State.

The score came just Jalin Moore took the lead for the Mountaineers on a five-yard run with 3:29 left. The final App State possession ended with a hail mary attempt in the end zone that found nothing but turf.

The first half was a back and forth affair with Troy going up 14-0 in the first, but the game turned in the second when AJ Howard stripped the ball and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown. Shortly after, Moore had a 32-yard touchdown run to tie the game 14-14.

A long drive for App State in the third ended with a 47-yard Michael Rubino field goal to a take a 17-14 lead, but Troy responded as Brandon Silvers held onto the option keeper 51 yards to retake the lead 21-17, setting up the back and forth fourth quarter.

App State is now 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the Sun Belt, hosting ULM next weekend. Troy moves to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the Sun Belt and will host the other league unbeaten Arkansas State on Thursday night.
