Complete guide to each Sun Belt school’s response to COVID-19 outbreak
As COVID-19, or Coronavirus, continues to spread worldwide, drastic measures are being taken by schools and organizations across the United States to limit face-to-face contact and eliminate large crowds.
The Sun Belt Conference announced a directive on Thursday to cancel the Men’s and Women’s basketball tournament as well as immediately suspend all sports.
Beyond athletics, many member schools have altered their class-delivery plans for the time being.
This is a list of every Sun Belt school and each school’s current plan.
Arkansas State
- Class will be held as normal on Friday, March 13.
- Class will be suspended March 16 and begin online-only delivery on March 17 until the end of the semester.
- The Arkansas State football spring game previously scheduled for March 19 has been canceled.
Appalachian State
- Spring break will be extended through next week.
- Classes will begin again on March 23 on will be delivered strictly via alternative methods.
- Students will receive further instructions by March 18.
Coastal Carolina
- Spring break has been extended through next week.
- Class will delivered via online methods from March 23 to the end of the semester.
- Spring commencement ceremony canceled.
Georgia Southern and Georgia State
- Class canceled up until the week of March 30.
- Beginning March 30, class will be taught solely online for the remainder of the semester.
- Students may not return to campus until given permission by the school.
Arkansas-Little Rock
- All face-to-face classes are being moved online effective immediately until further notice.
- All on-campus events through April 30 have been canceled.
- The state of Arkansas has confirmed multiple positive cases of coronavirus within the state.
Louisiana-Lafayette
- Class has been canceled for March 16 and 17.
- Class will be delivered via remote methods beginning March 18.
Louisiana-Monroe
- In-person classes from March 16-18 have been canceled.
- Effective March 19, classes will be delivered remotely for the remainder of the semester.
- Gatherings of more than 50 people have been prohibited.
South Alabama
- All classes, with the exception of the school of medicine, will be canceled during the week of March 16.
- Beginning March 23, classes will transition to online delivery for the rest of the semester.
- May commencement ceremony has been canceled.
Texas-Arlington
- Class will begin via online instruction only on March 23.
Texas State
- Spring break has been extended.
- Classes will be remotely delivered from March 30 to the end of the semester.
- Students will be contacted by March 25 with instructions on how classes will be delivered.
- All indoor events with an expected attendance of at least 200 have been canceled until April 12.
Troy
- All classes will be delivered by alternative methods from March 16 to April 6.
- Announcement coming on Tuesday, March 31.
