New Mexico State Aggies Struggle on the road, fall 52-6 to Troy Trojans

Good news: The Aggies outgained Troy 539-492, including 445 passing yards from Tyler Rogers.

Bad news: NMSU also turned the ball over five times, all of which were interceptions thrown by Rogers.

End result, the Aggies get their doors blown off, 52-6.

How many more times are we going to have to watch Rogers make plays like this before something changes?

That one was on 3rd and 10 from the Troy 18 yard line. That could have been at least three points.

And that one was on first and goal from the Troy 10 yard line. That’s Rogers staring down the go route on the high side of the field and then underthrowing the receiver by nearly five yards.

Even if I concede that Rogers’ fourth interception was a weird bounce and not entirely his fault, the following is still true:

  • Tyler Rogers’ first INT, came on 3rd and 10 from the Troy 18
  • Tyler Rogers’ second INT, came on first and goal from the Troy 10
  • Tyler Rogers’ fourth INT, came on second and ten from the Troy 19
  • Tyler Rogers’ fifth INT, came on first and ten from the Troy 20

I have no idea how any offense can afford that many mistakes in general, let alone red zone mistakes, and actually produce anything resembling a winning product. In the last six quarters of football, Tyler Rogers is now 34-for-69 for 516 yards, with one touchdown and 7 INT

I’m going to officially go ahead and step off the NMSU train that I was on to start the season. Larry Rose still isn’t quite healthy, and in the meantime the Aggies are relying on a senior quarterback who plays like a high school freshman when it matters the most.

I guess maybe NMSU might play better against Louisiana-Lafayette next week? I don’t know. Probably not. Meanwhile, Troy will probably beat the piss out of Idaho. At this rate, their game against App State might be for the conference title.
