Troy Cruises 34-13 At Idaho

Behind Brandon Silvers’ 373 passing yards on 31 of 42 passing, the Troy Trojans continued their Sun Belt season with a convincing 34-13 victory at Idaho.

Now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt play, the Trojans put up 530 yards and limited the Vandals to 255 total yards the game. Idaho drops to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in Sun Belt play.

Idaho started the game well with a field goal, then after a Troy fumble, settled for another field goal to make it 6-0, but the Trojans scored touchdowns on their next two possessions to quickly make it 14-6. Troy would add a third touchdown late in the second quarter to take a 21-6 halftime lead.

With the Trojans defense shutting down Matt Linehan, the offense got another touchdown and a couple of field goals in the third to make it 34-6. Idaho got a consolation touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Linehan ended up 19 of 34 passing for 166 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for the Vandals.

Silvers distributed the ball mostly to three receivers. John Johnson (128 yards and a touchdown), Emanuel Thompson (73 yards and a touchdown) and Deondre Douglas (65 yards) each had seven receptions on the day for Troy.

While it wasn’t a perfect performance for Troy as Silvers had two interceptions along with his three touchdowns, it showed that the Trojans are a force in the Sun Belt.

Troy heads into a bye week while Idaho hits the road next Saturday to face ULM.
