Film Sesh: Week 13

Championship weekend is getting closer and closer, but it’s not good for all people.

If you’re a coach for a struggling program, such as Rice’s David Baliff, you got fired. Congratulations on winning the gilded pink slip on your way out the door.

As Christmas comes closer, more coaches will soon be joining Baliff and getting the gift that no one wants: unemployment. Five bucks will go to the coach who gets fired after a bowl game.

But, in the meantime, there are still some regular season games to look at. With that in mind, let’s roll the film.

Sun Belt Five plays

  • I get it’s good to have a top plays segment, but I don’t get the Sun Belt Five name. Makes it seem like a crappy b-movie western you find in the bargain bin.
  • What a run by Louisiana-Monroe’s Marcus Green on his forth return touchdown of the season versus Arkansas State. They lost 67-50, but hey, at least you tried.
  • Troy’s Kaleb Barker flipping into the endzone has shades of John Elway getting helicoptered written all over it. Doing it while you’re up 41-6 to Texas State? That has injury written all over it.
  • Blaise Taylor’s pick six for Arkansas State made ULM’s offense look foolish. I counted at least two chances to take him down, but I guess there’s a reason why they play offense and not defense.
  • Arkansas State was involved in two of the top plays. I’m calling a Red Wolf conspiracy at the Sun Belt office.

Florida International Versus Western Kentucky

  • I am still not used to football on beIN Sports. “Oh, you mean the one with the motorcycle races and the European soccer?” Never gonna be able think another way.
  • Alex McGough had some great passes in that game.  Many left longtime fans asking “Where that was last season?”
  • That mess of a… I hope it was a fake punt… by Jake Collins of Western Kentucky was… something. Never have I seen someone who just could have gone down to save face instead gift a team a free touchdown. That play is probably the ugliest of all season out of Conference USA.
  • That horrible play made sense, considering WKU also gave up four straight scores to end the game. They deserved that one, as they went from up by four to out of the game.
  • FIU has a really weird stadium from a south Florida standpoint. Now that the conference is playing more night games, it makes more sense, but it just seems like a lot of metal to put in the sun. Even with the blue seats, that thing is is just collecting sun. Needs some solar panels or something.
