Which Forgotten Transfers Will Make An Impact In 2017?

Wow, we are getting way too close to the 2017 college football season. Where did the time go? With the season virtually right around the corner, it is time to start learning a few names that will make you look cool at parties with the college football illiterate.

Among the many lists that we will produce in the coming weeks, it is essential to look at the transfer market and how it will affect the Forgotten of college football. In no particular order, we put together a list of 29 players that are destined to make an impact (good or bad) in the 2017 season.

Some players are grad transfers with impressive pedigrees (Mike Jones/Temple). Others are highly rated recruits that needed a change of scenery to play up to their potential (Shawn Burgree-Becker/UCF). One thing in common among this group is desperation to make a name for their program and individually in the 2017 season.

  • Mike Jones, CB, Temple from NC Central (Sr.): 2016 All-MEAC first team (CB and Return Specialist). 2014 All-MEAC first team (CB and Return Specialist). 114 tackles, 36 PBU, 11 interceptions. One of only four returners in FCS with two punt return touchdowns in 2016. Selected to All-America Teams by The Sports Network, Beyond Sports Network and BOXTOROW in 2014.
  • Shawn Burgess-Becker, DB, Central Florida from Alabama (So.): Spent the season with the scout team as a transfer. Played mostly on special teams as a true freshman in 2015 at Alabama, earning three tackles in 13 games. Four-star product by multiple outlets out of Monarch High School. Under Armour All-American. Ranked among the top-15 safeties in the nation including a No. 7 ranking by ESPN.
  • Kyle Allen, QB, Houston from Texas A&M (Jr.): Saw action in 20 games with 14 starts in his two seasons with the Aggies. His sophomore season saw Allen lead Texas A&M in passing and total offense, completing 160-of-283 passes for 2,210 yards and 17 touchdowns. Threw for 1,322 yards and 16 touchdowns as a freshman against seven interceptions on 118-of-192 passing. Rated the nation’s top quarterback by ESPN, Rivals, Scout, and 247Sports after throwing for more than 8,000 yards and 86 touchdowns over his high school career.
  • Trey Quinn, WR, SMU from LSU (Jr.): Played in all 12 games in 2015 with two starts. Was one of 17 true freshmen to see action for the Tigers. Finished with 17 receptions which tied for second on the team. Stands as the national all-time career leader in receiving yards with 6,566. Holds the Louisiana state record for career receptions (357) and receiving yards (6,566). A four-star prospect, he was ranked as the No. 6 player in the state by ESPN.com and Rivals.com.
  • Shane Morris, QB, Central Michigan from Michigan (Sr.): Three-year letterman. Appeared under center in 15 games, making two starting assignments. Completed 47-of-92 passes (51.1 pct.) for 434 yards
  • Fred Ulu-Perry, OL, Hawaii from UCLA (So.): Played the 2015 season at UCLA, earning playing time in eight games as a true freshman for the Bruins along the offensive line. Also played defensive line and recorded three tackles. Rated as a four-star offensive line recruit and selected to play in the Under Armour High School All-America Game.
  • Damian Williams, QB, Texas State from Mississippi State (Sr.): Transfer from Mississippi State.  Played in five games in 2016 and made one start as a freshman. Was the 17th-ranked prospect in Louisiana, from all positions, in the Times-Picayune Nifty Fifty postseason ratings.
  • Jauan Wesley, WR, Northern Illinois from Iowa State (Jr.): Played two seasons at Iowa State. Recorded 40 receptions, 408 receiving yards and two touchdowns during his career as a Cyclone.
  • Tim Irvin, DB, East Carolina from Auburn (So.): Projected starter at the free safety position and should vie for conference honors candidacy. Played in 10 games in 2015 and was credited with 18 tackles (eight solo), two quarterback hurries and a pair of pbu.
  • Thomas Sirk, QB, East Carolina from Duke (Sr.): Graduate transfer. Started 12 of 24 career contests at Duke, completing 261-of-441 passes for 2,692 yards and 19 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,041 yards and 16 scores on 210 carries. Played in and started 12 games in 2015.
  • Tyshon Dye, RB, East Carolina from Clemson (Sr.): Graduate transfer. Rushed for 351 yards and five touchdowns on 76 carries in 157 snaps over 17 career games. Rated as the No. 123 player in the nation, No. 18 running back in the nation and No. 12 player in Georgia by ESPN.
  • Grant Polk, OL, South Florida from Virginia (So.): Sat out the 2016 season under NCAA transfer rules. Redshirted in 2015. Rated a three-star recruit by ESPN.com, Rivals.com, Scout.com, and 247Sports.
  • Grant Schmidt, OL, Cincinnati from Ohio State (So.): Four-star prospect by Rivals and 247Sports, Rivals rated him the No. 26 tackle nationally while Scout had Schmidt as a Top 50 prospect.
  • Reggie Chevis, DL, Houston from Texas A&M (Sr.): Graduate transfer. Saw action in all 13 games in 2016, totaling 25 tackles.
  • Ellis Jefferson, WR, Houston from Arizona State (Sr.): Graduate transfer. 25 career catches. Rated by Scout.com as the No. 82 wide receiver prospect in the nation.
  • Tyre Brady, WR, Marshall from Miami (Jr.): Played in eight games and made three starts for the 2015 Hurricanes. Caught nine passes for 112 yards with one touchdown. As 2014 freshman, played in two games (Florida A&M, North Carolina).
  • Bryce English, DT, North Texas from Kansas State (So.): Rated as the 30th best defensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com, 35th by ESPN and 40th by Scout.com. His father, Lee, played at North Texas from 1978-81.
  • DeAndre Woods, TE, Old Dominion from Vanderbilt (Sr.): Graduate transfer. Has two years of eligibility.  In the first three games of 2015, caught seven passes for 129 yards before battling injuries.
  • Deltron Sands, RB, Akron from Oregon State (So.): One of four true freshmen to play at Oregon State. Played in four games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Three-star recruit by 247Sports and Scout. Rated the No. 86 running back prospect in the nation.
  • Tommy Mister, RB, Northern Illinois from Indiana (Jr.): Redshirted the 2014 season. Suffered a season-ending leg injury during preseason camp. 2012-2013 all-state, all-area, and all-conference. Rated No. 21 prospect in Illinois by ESPN.com and the No. 44 athlete nationally by Rivals.com.
  • Dan Samuelson, OL, Eastern Michigan from Michigan (Sr.): Did not appear in a game in three seasons at Michigan. Ranked as a four-star recruit by Scout and a three-star prospect by Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports.
  • Coltin Gerhart, QB/RB, New Mexico from Arizona State (Jr.): Graduate Transfer with 2 years of eligibility remaining. Lettered at Arizona State for two seasons. Saw action in seven games in 2016 and also played in four games in 2015. Also played baseball for the seasons at Arizona State, serving as an outfielder. The No. 41 dual-threat quarterback by ESPN and the No. 43 quarterback by Scout.com
  • Jaypee Philbert, OL, Arkansas State from Iowa State (Jr.): Spent the last two seasons at Iowa State. Appeared in 12 games for the Cyclones. 3-star recruit by Rivals and ESPN. 10th-best JC offensive tackle by ESPN.
  • Jamarius Henderson, RB, Troy from Memphis (So.): Saw game action in 10 contests in 2015. Team’s fourth-leading rusher with 320 yards on 60 carries. Eighth on the squad with 449 all-purpose yards.
  • Jake Edwards, OL, Georgia Southern from Georgia (Jr.): A three-star prospect, No. 46 ranked OT nationally. Atlanta Journal- Constitution 2013 Class AA First-Team All-State Offense.
  • Eastwood Thomas, OL, Louisiana-Monroe from Alabama (So.): Walk on at Alabama that got second team reps as a freshman.
  • Finesse Middleton, DL, South Alabama from Louisville (Jr.): Was part of the Cardinal program for three years. Appeared in seven contests as a redshirt freshman in 2014, collecting three tackles. Three-star recruit.
  • TV Williams, WR, Texas State from Kentucky (Jr.): Played two seasons at Kentucky. Caught five passes in two seasons for the Wildcats. Named All-District 10-5A First-Team as a senior.
  • Austin Wilson, QB, Coastal Carolina from Syracuse (Sr.): Spent four years at Syracuse, playing three (2014-16). For his career, completed 49-of-85 passes for 418 yards with a touchdown. Ranked the No. 43 recruit in Pennsylvania.
